Quilted Mattress Pads

Quilted mattress pads are a common solution when someone’s bed is not as high as required. Instead of having to purchase a new mattress, a quilted mattress pad is the ideal replacement. While the cost of quilted mattress pads is not too high, it can easily be replaced at any time. In addition, mattress pads come in various materials to suit the needs of various individuals. In the case where people have sensitive skin it is possible to get quilted mattress pads made with non-allergenic materials.

Some manufacturers even offer customized quilted mattress pads where you can select what the mattress pad is filled with. While some may use cotton, some mattress pads come filled with down which is usually more expensive. Recently, manufacturers have even started using gel fibres. The advantage of these fibres is that they are more long lasting and do not clump over time, like cotton or down. The outer layers of the quilted mattress pads, too, come in rich Egyptian cotton or non-stain synthetic materials.

Quilted mattress pads also come in a special variation known as egg crate. Here, manufacturers again offer to custom design you mattress pad to suit a bed perfectly. For instance, a bed which has small lumps in it will be measured carefully and then the mattress pad will be designed so that it levels out the lumps in the bed. One huge advantage to this type of mattress is that it can be designed in such a way that two sections of the bed feel different. Especially in the case of two married people, each may have different tastes for the type of mattress. While on may prefer a softer padding, the other may opt for a firmer mattress. Egg crate mattresses can be ordered in such a way that one half of the quilted mattress pads are according to one person’s liking while the other is according to the liking of the other.

Another feature of quilted mattress pads is that they come in expand-a-grip models. These are very convenient, especially for use in children’s beds as well as older people’s beds. The expand-a-grip makes sure that the mattress pad stays the same way and does not need to be adjusted regularly, unlike normal mattress pads. In the case of old people and children it is also possible to get waterproof mattress pads to prevent the entire mattress being wet in case of bed wetting. These mattress pads come with a lining of linen of thin plastic within the quilted mattress pads. A common problem with these types of mattress pads, however, is that they do not radiate heat as well as ordinary mattress pads and usually feel much hotter.
